buckytheduckyme, writing a new chapter: okay, so this is the outline for this chapter, let's stick to it! 
me, when the characters start doing whatever they want: oh, okay! that's fine, it still fits into the story, as long as we go back to using the outline as soon as you're done with whatever you're doing.
me, when the chapter ends up being 3+k of sadness and introspection, even tho the outline didn't have anything of the sort:
